Teaching Position Details in Technology
Programme: Bachelor of Architecture
Year: 2nd
Courses: Building Technology (Architectural and Building Technology Design Studio)
Description of the Disciplinary Area:
The teaching of Technology, in close connection with the Architectural and Urban Design studios, is focused on identifying the criteria that must be taken during the design phase to direct the choice between different technical options, reaching crucial attention to the social, physical, productive, and economic context. For this purpose, it is necessary to consider the whole building life cycle and users' needs to guarantee the indoor well-being and good functionality/maintenance of the buildings.
Students must study today's resources and construction systems, referring to their performances and mutual relationships within the building system. Students must understand the building process through which the design and construction activities are connected with the stakeholders' role in this process.
In the three-year teaching experience, in the context of the knowledge and methodologies supporting the project, the student acquires a detailed critical awareness of the different aspects that influence the design choices from the new construction interventions and the interventions.
Description of the course
- Building Technology (Architectural and Building Technology Design Studio)
Semester: First
Start dates: February 2026 (teaching starts September 2026)
The Studio aims at fostering – within the strong integration with the architectural design discipline - the ability to handle the coherence of spatial and conceptual design with its materiality and tectonics. The student deepens the interrelation between constructive and structural principles and the architectural form through the development of the design aspects related to the constructive systems, the execution details, addressing as well environmental requirements and regulations constraints.
Basic knowledge required to teach the course:
- Knowledge of the characteristics of construction materials, subsystems and components (production processes, manufacturing methods, specific properties and performances).
- Knowledge of the technical standards as a system of constraints with which one must deal in the design activity.
- Ability to support students in developing the project at different scales of detailing and the proper representation techniques, deepening the architectural design into its material dimension and technical feasibility.
- Ability to communicate an integrated approach, matching the typological and spatial alternatives of the design proposal in coherence with the complexity of user constraints and with the relative technological and constructive choices.
- Experience in proper management of an integrated system of constraints (environmental, regulatory, structural, constructing, etc.)
- Knowledge about innovative construction systems, coherent with the innovation in the construction sector and contemporary environmental needs.
- Knowledge regarding innovative materials, according to building performance and sustainability.
Teaching Position Details in Building Physics
Programme: Bachelor of Architecture
Year: 2nd
Course: Building Physics
Description of the Disciplinary Area:
The field of Building Physics contributes to the improvement of skills in the transformation of energy and its interaction with architectural works and the landscape.
In the three-year teaching experience, in the context of the knowledge and methodologies supporting the architectural project, the student acquires a detailed critical awareness of the different aspects that influence the design choices both on the front of the building of new constructions and on the front of interventions on the built environment.
In Building Physics, the student also acquires the ability to identify and manage the variables that characterize the relationship between the built environment and energy-ecologically friendly comfort and to orient design and construction practices towards solutions characterized by a high level of sustainable energy efficiency.
Description of the course
- Building Physics
Semester: Second
Start dates: October 2026 (teaching starts January 2027)
Building physics is that part of knowledge that studies energy efficiency problems in buildings and environmental comfort (thermal-hygrometric, acoustic, and visual). Its field of action is not limited to the study of buildings but also extends to the external environment at various territorial scales.
The Course's general objective is the study of the energy-environmental performance of buildings and the consequent connections with urban, architectural, and plant design. The topics necessary for understanding the interaction between the external environment - building - internal environment, the exploitation of energy sources and the satisfaction of comfort are covered.
Basic knowledge required to teach the course:
- Ability to guide students through developing following skills:
- general notions of technical physics, energy in its different forms, principles of conservation of mass and energy;
- principles of thermodynamics and cycles for energy production;
