Multi NDT Inspector – MT & UT Level II | Baku, Azerbaijan
Responsibility:
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Contract Duration: Three (3) years
- Perform Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level II on welds, plates, pipes, and structural components in accordance with company procedures and applicable codes (e.g., ASME Section V, B31.3, ISO 17638/17640, AWS D1.1, client specifications).
- Review inspection plans (ITPs), drawings/isometrics, acceptance criteria, and method statements prior to execution.
- Conduct equipment checks and calibrations; ensure UT and MT instruments, probes, wedges, yokes, and consumables are serviceable and within calibration.
- Select appropriate UT transducers, frequencies, and couplants for the material and geometry; adjust parameters (range, gain, DAC/TCG, gates) and apply approved scanning techniques.
- Locate, size, and evaluate discontinuities against acceptance criteria, differentiating between relevant and non-relevant indications and identifying defect types (cracks, lack of fusion, porosity, laminations, inclusions).
- Calibrate UT equipment using reference blocks (IIW, V1/V2, etc.) and apply defect sizing techniques (half-skip, full-skip, 6 dB drop, 20 dB drop).
- Prepare MT consumables (contrast paint, magnetic particles, UV lamps) and apply correct magnetization techniques, ensuring proper field direction, strength, and illumination.
- Interpret and evaluate MT and UT results; prepare clear, accurate inspection reports, sketches, and traceability records.
- Maintain proper documentation for all inspection activities and ensure data traceability.
- Interface with site supervision and clients; participate in toolbox talks and daily coordination meetings.
- Comply with all HSE requirements; use PPE, manage exposure risks, and follow safe work practices in confined spaces, at heights, and in hot work areas.
- Support audits, surveillance activities, and continuous improvement of NDT procedures and work instructions.
- Safeguard company assets and manage inspection consumables effectively.
Minimum Qualifications & Certifications:
- Level II certification in MT and UT (CSWIP, PCN, or equivalent).
- Valid near-vision (Jaeger J1 or equivalent) and color vision (Ishihara or equivalent) test results meeting NDT requirements.
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on field experience performing MT and UT on industrial assets.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of ultrasonic testing (sound waves, velocity, wavelength, beam spread) and magnetic particle testing principles.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and acceptance criteria (e.g., ASME V, ASME VIII, ASME B31.3, AWS D1.1, ISO 17638/17640).
- Understanding of materials, weld joint configurations, and inspection procedures.
- Proficiency in preparing professional NDT reports, sketches, and technical documentation.
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and comfortable using the internet; basic CAD or sketching skills are an advantage.
- Strong communication skills in Azerbaijani and English; Russian is an advantage.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines under pressure.
