Lead Economist (Petroleum)

Job duties:

Valuation, Economic Analysis and Modeling:

  • Build, maintain and review economic models for Assets managed by the Company, as well as for other Assets under the business development initiatives
  • Communicate regularly with operators and contractor parties to obtain updates related to the Assets
  • Conduct economic evaluations of projects at various development stages and contribute to preparation of business cases supporting commercial activities
  • Perform detailed economic and commercial analysis related to netback, fiscal terms, taxes – royalties, and other value drivers
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and reports summarizing valuations, due diligence findings, and economic analyses Economic and Decision Support
  • Review and analyze project documentation and decision-support materials issued by Operators and other parties
  • Represent the Company in formal meetings and committees related to managed Assets; provide commercial input on meetings and coordinate agendas as required
  • Address both regular and ad-hoc requests covering Finance, Economics, and Business Development activities
  • Coordinate commercial matters with other parties and contribute to drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements

Leadership & Team Development

  • Consistently support junior team members by providing regular constructive feedback
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by offering support and assistance when needed Ensure consistency and best practices in economic evaluation across the company

Essential experience and job requirements:

  • University degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant field
  • Strong knowledge of corporate finance, upstream oil & gas, and PSA, including fiscal terms, economic/financial modeling, and valuation
  • Professional courses and trainings on oil & gas economics, certifications such as FMVA, CFA, ACCA, or equivalent will be considered an advantage
  • Proficiency in Azerbaijani and English (both written and spoken)
  • Advanced skills in MS Package
  • Thinks logically, interprets complex data, and develops clear economic insights to support decisions
  • Collaborates effectively, listens to others, contributes to team success, and fosters knowledge sharing
  • Demonstrates curiosity and commitment to continuous learning, delivers reliable high quality work, and ensures data integrity
  • Delivers clear, well-structured presentations and communicates complex concepts professionally
  • Strong team collaboration skills, with the ability to listen, communicate, and share knowledge openly
